CIFIST: A European commission excellence grant

In the context of the European Union “Marie Curie” program, an Excellence Grant awarded to Dr. Piercarlo Bonifacio is behind the launching, on 8th September 2005 at the Observatoire de Paris, of the CIFIST (Cosmological Impact of the First Stars) program.

This project seeks a better understanding of the chemical composition and evolution of the young Universe, at the time when the first stars were formed. These stars can still be observed today with ESO’s very large telescopes. The team will include several visiting European scientists and postdoctoral researchers and will be based at the Galaxies, Stars, Physics and Instrumentation Department (GEPI).
